Practice counsellor mental health

In our GP practice, Wendy Sneiders works as a practice support person for mental health care, or POH GGZ for short. The POH GGZ knows how to deal with psychological questions and problems.

In a conversation, the POH GGZ will map out your complaints and questions with you. The history of your complaints or what you have already tried to get rid of them may also be discussed with you. The POH GGZ then advises you and your GP on a possible approach to the complaints. This could be a number of follow-up interviews at the POH GGZ or at the GP's office. Sometimes the advice is to refer. This could be to social work, a self-help website or a psychologist, for example.

The POH GGZ can help with:

  • Clarifying issues.
  • Providing education on complaints, causes and possible solutions.
  • Providing advice on treatment and referral.
  • Short-term treatment or counselling in general practice.
  • Aftercare and treatment in mental health.

Through the doctor's assistant, you can make an appointment for a consultation with the POH GGZ. Talks with the POH GGZ are free of charge. The costs are covered by the basic health insurance. Your excess will not be charged, as the care falls under GP care.
